Multimedia reporter.
Digital thinker.
Honest communicator.

Natalie Miranda is a student journalist at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication with experience in digital media, social media, print and online reporting, and photography. Graduation is approaching in December 2o14. She is a California transplant with a passion for creativity and desires a position that will allow for growth in digital media and reporting.

Currently, Miranda is a freelance writer for the Phoenix New Times food blog, Chow Bella. She interned with them from January-May 2014, and continued as a freelance writer, and wrote for their yearly “Best of Phoenix” magazine. While she was an intern, she wrote a sustainability piece on the nopal cactus plant as an assignment for her magazine writing course, and the story was bought and run in the Phoenix New Times in August.

She worked on ASU’s student newspaper, The State Press, as a copy editor and was hired back as the assistant arts and entertainment editor.

Miranda was editor-in-chief of her community college newspaper, the Citrus College Clarion, where she won multiple awards among community colleges in the state of California. Her awards included first place in news writing in the state and general excellence for the publication.

At the start of her senior year, Miranda began learning web coding on Code Academy, and continues her education through courses and labs at ASU. Digital and print design is also something she loves to learn about. To combine her love of food, technology, media and design is Miranda’s ultimate career goal.

Miranda’s journalism career started when she was 18 years old at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges State Convention. She became part of the Citrus College Clarion as the arts and entertainment editor where she sharpened her skills in reporting and photography, and gained skills in design, layout and editing. Miranda was hired as editor-in-chief by a professional advisory board two semesters in a row.

After transferring to ASU in 2012, Miranda has been able to expand her skills in journalism, digital media, technology, design and editing.
